What is Pinaverium Bromide?

Pinaverium Bromide is a bromide salt of pinaverium, which is a calcium channel blocker (CCB) with antispasmodic properties. It is used in the treatment of irritable bowel syndrome and is most effective when used for the entire course of treatment and is not intended for short-term or intermittent use.

It is sold worldwide under the brand names Dicetel and Eldicet. The generic version is sold under the brand name Disten in South Korea and Nulite in Argentina.

Mechanism of action

Pinaverium Bromide acts as a selective and specific voltage-dependent calcium channel blocker. By reducing inward calcium current and calcium inflow, it decreases smooth muscle contractions of the GI tract, thereby relaxing intestinal muscles and helps in relieving conditions such as cramps, pain, bloating, and discomfort.
